Eric Greenfield and his family felt like big fish when they rode on the new Seaglass Carousel in Battery Park. This is a carousel like no other. It puts you in a whirling school of 30 shimmering fish, some as much as 13 feet high and 9 feet wide. Sit inside one of these glowing ocean creatures which are illuminated with color-changing LED light fixtures, and you feel as if you're deep in the ocean.
Greenfield's 5-year-old was thrilled to be inside a purple (her favorite color) fish that went spinning back and forth and bouncing up and down. Along the way, she was able to wave to her dad, her grandmother and her aunt each of whom was ensconced in a giant fish of their own. The 3-1/2 minute ride is accompanied by bubbly music that seems to come from all around and under you because the speakers are mounted in the floor. Unlike a traditional carousel, there is no post in the center as the operating mechanism is under the floor.
Take this magical ride to the bottom of the sea and you won't be sorry.
